Kulea Postpartum Support Training Course
Kulea is Swahili word for nuturing. Eban, the adinkra symbol for safety, security and a ban against neglect. A fence of protection.
This Nine Module Online Course takes you through assisting families with their newborn babies from birth through the first 6 weeks, including lactation, bonding, and basic newborn care.

What will you get from this training?
- An understanding of what the Postpartum period consists of and how it is viewed and honored in different cultures and countries
- An in-depth view of how postpartum support can help to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate
- Basic lactation assessment and support skills
- Basic newborn care skills
- Tips for offering specialized support for the new mother and family
- Ability to recognize when to refer out, and resources for referral
- A *Certificate of Completion once all requirements of the training are completed.
What will I be able to offer after this training?
- Postpartum assistance and support to new mothers and families
- Basic newborn care and breastfeeding basics
- Implementing a system of care that leaves mother and family self-sufficient once postpartum doula services are rendered
What is required for completetion certification?
- Successful completion of all assignments and passing grade on weekly quizzes,
- Attendance of two Lactation Support meetings and one must be a Chocolate Milk Café meeting (within 1 year of starting the course)
- As part of Hands-on training and experience exposure, you will need to support one family during their postpartum period.
*Please note, this training is held by the President and Founder of Birth from the Earth Inc, who holds a Master’s Degree in Midwifery. I am not a nationally recognized, accredited Postpartum Doula Trainer, although I have completed a Certified Postpartum Doula Training in 2010 and have extensive experience providing postpartum support to new mothers and families. You will receive a Certificate of Completion, and will be furnished with a letter detailing what your training consisted of, as an attestation to your knowledge and qualifications as a Postpartum Doula, to give to prospective clients.
